It has been some time since RedMagic introduced the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro in China, which is known internationally as the Astra 2. While the company’s Malaysian branch has yet to make any formal announcements, its international website has confirmed that the tablet will soon be available for purchase globally.
According to RedMagic’s international website, the Astra 2 will go on open sale on 26 August, with Early Bird vouchers currently available. These vouchers cost just US$1 (~RM4) and will give buyers access to several perks ahead of the tablet’s official sale.
These include a US$30 (~RM122) discount, a free charger, and a RedMagic keychain. Interestingly, Early Bird customers will also get one-day early access, allowing them to purchase the tablet from 25 August, a day before it goes on open sale.
Official Global Specs
With the launch just around the corner, here’s what the tablet has to offer. First, the Astra 2 comes with a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 2,400 x 1,504-pixel resolution and a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. It also has a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, an instantaneous touch sampling rate of up to 2,000Hz, and SGS-certified low blue light protection.
Aesthetically speaking, the tablet features a metal frame with a glass-accented back cover, along with customisable RGB lighting. Similar to the RedMagic 11S Pro, the Astra 2 also has a visible liquid cooling structure on the back. As for protection, the tablet has Corning Gorilla Glass and an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance.
Under the hood, the tablet is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC alongside RedMagic’s RedCore R4 gaming chip. According to the company, the latter is designed to optimise gameplay, resource allocation and responsiveness for more stable frame rates and consistent performance. GSMArena also says that the tablet features an Energy Cube 3.0 system, which can allocate and optimise system resources to improve CPU, GPU and memory performance. These are paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.
Keeping the lights on is an 8,300mAh dual-cell battery. The device comes with two USB-C ports for charging: Red1magic says that one supports up to 75W fast charging, while GSMArena notes that the other supports up to 40W. In terms of cooling, the device comes with the company’s AquaCore Cooling System 2.0, which combines the aforementioned liquid cooling system with a large 4D vapour chamber.
On the software side, the Astra 2 comes with REDMAGIC OS 11.5 based on Android 16. For photography, the device is equipped with a 9MP front-facing camera and a 13MP rear sensor.
Pricing and Availability
As mentioned earlier, the Astra 2 will go on open sale globally on 26 August. Price-wise, the base 12GB + 256GB variant is priced at US$749 (~RM3,064), while the 16GB + 512GB model retails for US$849 (~RM3,473). It will be available in Eclipse and Starfrost colour options.
Before we conclude, do note that RedMagic Malaysia has not confirmed a local launch date for the Astra 2 at the time of writing. The tablet also lacks a SIRIM certification listing. As such, we do not know if or when the device will arrive in the country. With that in mind, it’s best to wait for an official announcement from the company’s local arm.
