The Malaysian government has officially launched the new Rakyat Digital portal. This update consolidates multiple initiatives focused on digital literacy and skills into a single platform, with the goal of equipping Malaysians with the necessary competence as the country moves forward with its AI ambitions.
Created by the Ministry of Digital through the MyDIGITAL Corporation, the platform serves as the nation’s digital learning hub. It expands on the offerings of the original Rakyat Digital portal launched in 2024, which solely focused on digital literacy learning programmes. Driven by the 3A (Awareness, Access, and Adoption) approach, this latest iteration of the portal combines learning opportunities with tools and other resources.
What’s New
The new platform is accessible through the same https://rakyatdigital.gov.my URL, but now includes individual hubs for specific purposes. To start, the Digital Literacy Hub is where users can find the original digital literacy platform. It hosts a wide selection of free courses focused on AI. These modules are geared towards building foundational knowledge to help Malaysians with their first steps into the digital and AI economy.
Meanwhile, the Digital Skills Hub focuses on specialised skills and industry-relevant training. It offers both free and paid courses in technical and non-technical digital competencies. Also featured here is the Executive Digital Leadership Programme. Conceived in partnership with Asia School of Business (ASB), the hybrid programme aims to help C-suites and senior executives strengthen digital leadership skills.
Finally, the AI Builder encourages practical application, offering support for exploring, building, and showcasing AI-enabled products. At the time of writing, though, this platform is not yet available.
The Rakyat Digital portal also hosts assessments to determine the user’s capabilities. Further improvements and enhancements are in the works, including additional learning content and ecosystem partnerships.
Programmes And Initiatives
As previously promised, the AI Untuk Rakyat programme is available on the portal. Through this programme, eligible users can get free three-month subscriptions to AI applications, provided they first complete and pass five predetermined courses. Among the courses are “AI Safety”, “CyberSAFE Untuk Rakyat”, “Generative AI”, “Agentic AI For All”, and “Cloud Untuk Rakyat”. Registrations will open on 31 August 2026 for Malaysians aged between 18 to 30. The programme is expected to benefit 100,000 youths nationwide.
In addition to this, the government is offering the Global Learning Pass, which provides upskilling and professional development courses via Coursera. The pass will offer free access to the platform for three months. It is worth noting that the initiative will roll out to 100,000 Malaysians in four cohorts. The first will involve 25,000 participants and is set to begin on 16 September 2026. Those interested can sign up by providing their email addresses.
Getting Started
The new Rakyat Digital portal is open to all Malaysians, but you will need an account to access the available services and enrol in the courses. To get started, users must sign up with MyDigital ID and complete the registration process.
For those who already have an account on the old platform, their existing profiles and information have been migrated to the current portal. So, they will retain their progress, certificates, and badges. That said, they may be required to verify their email addresses and update their profiles.
