Smart #2 Images Appear Online Via Chinese Regulator

Smart #2

Back in April, Smart revealed what it called at the time the Concept #2, a two-seater reminiscent of the Fortwo that the brand was known for back when it was still wholly owned by Mercedes. At the time, the company said a production model would be shown off at the Paris Motor Show in October, but photos of the #2 have appeared online ahead of schedule. These come via the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Chinese news outlet Autohome shared the aforementioned images which depict the very recognisable two-seater silhouette. There’s a slight baseball cap-esque look to the Smart #2, with the rear spoiler protruding from the roof of the car, as shown on its concept counterpart. The front headlights look like the kind of angular eyes you’d expect to see in a cartoon character, while the taillights look rounder, with an almost water drop-like tip on the inside.

The report also mentions frameless windows on the Smart #2, as well as conventional pull-type door handles rather than the hidden ones you normally see on EVs. Not surprising, as the Chinese government is set to ban those types of door handles come 2027. For wheels, the options look to be 15-inch steel wheels or 16-inch alloy wheels. No images of the interior, but the car is noted to sport an S-shaped dashboard that’s much like the Fortwo.

Also mentioned in the report are some measurements for the Smart #2. It measures 2,751mm long, 1,669mm wide and 1,555mm tall, with a wheelbase of 1,875mm. This makes the whole car just 1mm over being able to fit within the wheelbase of the #1, the brand’s next smallest model. As for its weight, it weighs in at 1,130kg. Previously, specs for the Concept #2 pointed toward a new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) plus a CLTC driving range of 400km. This new report also mentions a 60 kW rear motor and a 30 kWh battery.
