Insta360 has officially launched the Luna Pro globally, bringing the second variant of its first gimbal camera to markets including Malaysia. First introduced in China last month, it is the single-lens counterpart to the dual-camera Ultra model and is designed primarily for creators who want high-quality video without the complexity of a conventional camera setup.
The Pro combines a Leica Summicron lens with a 1-inch 8K sensor, offering up to 8K video recording alongside a range of features aimed at both casual content creators and more demanding video workflows. It also retains the detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen seen on the Luna Ultra, which doubles as a remote control and monitor.
The Luna Pro measures 52.4 x 169.9 x 38.5mm, with the Cosmic Black version weighing 233g and Stellar White coming in at 235g. Both colour options are available globally.
Leica Optics And 8K Video
Luna Pro is equipped with a Leica Summicron lens with an f/1.8 aperture and a 20mm equivalent focal length, paired with a 1-inch sensor. The camera can record video at up to 8K30fps, including 8K Dolby Vision for improved colour, contrast and dynamic range.
For short-form content, the camera supports native 4K30fps vertical video with 6K oversampling. Users can rotate the touchscreen to switch between orientations, allowing vertical footage to be captured without having to reframe conventional horizontal footage afterwards.
The Luna Pro also supports 4K120fps slow-motion recording, as well as 1080p recording at up to 240fps. For creators who need greater flexibility during post-production, it can record 10-bit I-Log footage and supports ACES workflows for professional colour grading.
The camera offers up to 2x lossless zoom and up to 4x HighRes Zoom, with AI-powered processing helping to maintain image quality when shooting at higher magnification. It can also capture still images at up to 33MP in standard mode or 37MP using UltraPhoto, alongside 200MP scenic panoramas.
Gimbal Stabilisation And Detachable Touchscreen
As expected from a dedicated gimbal camera, the Luna Pro uses three-axis mechanical stabilisation to keep footage steady during movement. Its AI-powered Deep Track system can automatically keep subjects within the frame, while Rapid Focus helps maintain sharpness when subjects are moving.
Like the Ultra model, the Pro also comes with a detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen that can monitor and control the camera remotely, with Insta360 stating that it can transmit footage from up to 20m away under suitable conditions. The company has also added slide-to-start recording and twist-to-shoot controls to make it quicker to begin recording.
Audio can be captured through the camera’s built-in microphones, with wind reduction and voice enhancement available. It can also connect directly to Insta360’s Mic Series, including the Mic Air and Mic Pro, without requiring a separate receiver.
Head Tracking And Other Features
The Luna Pro is also equipped with several features aimed specifically at solo shooting. Its POV Head Tracker can be paired with accessories such as the Neck Mount to let users control the camera through head movements, opening up hands-free shooting possibilities for first-person content.
NFC connectivity also allows compatible smartphones to connect to the Insta360 app with a tap, making it quicker to access footage for editing and sharing. The app itself includes AI-powered editing tools that can automatically select highlights and turn them into ready-to-share videos.
The camera supports several Leica colour profiles, including Leica Natural, Leica Vivid and Leica Chrome, alongside additional cinematic filters. This gives users the option of applying a particular look directly in-camera rather than relying entirely on post-processing.
For more advanced productions, the Luna Pro also features built-in timecode for synchronising footage across multiple cameras. Insta360 says this is compatible with workflows involving Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Up To Four Hours Of Battery Life
The Luna Pro comes with a 1,550mAh battery and is rated for up to four hours of recording under specific laboratory conditions. It also supports fast charging, with Insta360 claiming that the camera can reach 80% charge in around 23 minutes when using a compatible 45W USB-C charger.
The camera has 47GB of built-in storage, while a microSD card can be used when additional capacity is needed. Interestingly, the global specification lists support for microSD cards of up to 1TB, which differs from the 2TB maximum capacity of its Chinese counterpart.
Price And Availability
In Malaysia, the Luna Pro is priced at RM2,199 for the standard bundle, RM2,499 for the Fill Light bundle, RM2,649 for the Endurance bundle, and RM2,779 for the Vlog bundle. It is available now through Insta360’s official store on Shopee, as well as the company’s official website.
