In 2026 alone, Huawei has launched five different MatePad models in Malaysia. These include the MatePad 12 X, MatePad 11.5 Standard Edition, MatePad 11.5 S 2026, MatePad Mini, and MatePad Pro Max. Now, the company is set to add a sixth model to the lineup in the form of the MatePad Air, which is scheduled to launch in the country on 18 August 2026.
As youโd expect from an announcement like this, Huawei did not reveal any specifications in its official press release. However, amusingly enough, the company appears to have revealed those details on its official Shopee page instead โ with the only exception being its price.
According to the shopping platform, the tablet will come with a 12-inch OLED PaperMatte Display. The panel has a 2,800 x 1,840 resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. Huaweiโs official press release describes it as an โupgraded ultra-clearโ display and notes that it can deliver โvibrantโ visuals.
The MatePad Air also features a full-metal body and a six-speaker array. It weighs just 509g and measures 5.3mm in thickness. Huawei also claims that the tablet has a narrow 4.69mm bezel, which it describes as its narrowest to date.
Based on the Shopee page, the MatePad Air will come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Unfortunately, itโs unclear if Huawei will offer other configurations beyond this combination. The listing also did not specify which processor the tablet will use. That said, it does mention that the device will feature a 3D cooling system with a custom vapour chamber.
As for its battery, the tablet will pack a 10,100mAh cell with support for 66W Huawei SuperCharge. Huawei claims that this can provide up to 16 hours of video playback on a single charge.
As for software, the listing states that the MatePad Air will run on HarmonyOS. For productivity, the tablet will feature PC-level WPS Office 3.0. According to the press release, it will also be compatible with Huaweiโs Smart Magnetic Keyboard and M-Pencil Pro. For photography, the tablet will feature a 12MP front-facing camera and a 50MP rear shooter.
As mentioned earlier, the MatePad Air is set to launch in Malaysia on 18 August 2026, when Huawei is expected to reveal its official pricing and complete specifications. The tablet will be available in three colour options: Airy Blue, White, and Sakura Pink.
In the meantime, Huawei has announced that customers who pre-order the device will receive โfree gifts worth up to RM4,003โ. These include the HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard, HUAWEI M-Pencil Pro, HUAWEI Wireless Mouse, AI-Powered WPS Office with a one-year WPS AI Subscription, AI-Powered HUAWEI Notes, and HUAWEI Premium Service.
