Last year, Prasarana provided 24 hours of public transport across its rail and bus services for the National Day celebrations. The list included the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Monorail, as well as the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route. It looks like the company will do the same this year, with public transport services running throughout the night of 30 August leading into 31 August.
The New Straits Times cites government spokesperson and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil as saying that βPrasarana has committed to providing 24-hour public transport services in conjunction with National Dayβ. He also said that βwe hope this will help more people come to Putrajayaβ. At the time of writing, the company has not made the official announcement itself via the Rapid KL Facebook page the way it did last year.
The previous yearβs National Day celebrations saw Prasarana adding more buses during the 24-hour service period. On its eve, the company added 235 buses for 86 routes, and 308 buses for 100 routes on the day itself. There were also 96 free intermediary buses along three routes, as well as 20 vans provided by the Rapid On-Demand service covering five zones, which would be booked for a RM1 fare.
On a related note, Fahmi said that this yearβs distribution of the Jalur Gemilang features a magnet-based design. This allows it to be more freely attached to and removed from vehicles, rather than the more adhesive types that we are used to seeing. He said that the change is in response to feedback from previous years that motorists preferred a non-permanent option. βFrom previous feedback, they prefer magnets over those that are stuck onto the vehicle. So this is an improvement weβve made this yearβ, he was quoted as saying.
