A Modder Has Gotten NVIDIA DLSS 5 To Run Across Two RTX 5060 Ti Cards

NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 has been cooking up a storm in the world of modders, allowing the upscaler and its Neural Rendering engine to be appliedΒ to games that technically and officially aren’t supported yet, and even toΒ older-generation GeForce cards that predate Blackwell. In that spirit, one modder went a rather expensive route: running the technology through two GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB cards.

Not Practical But Hey, Multi-GPU Setup

Considering the fact that GPUs, let alone memory modules and storage, still cost a premium, this method of implementing DLSS 5 isn’t the most cost-efficient. That said, if you do happen to have two RTX 5060 Ti 16GB cards lying around, you could try this method.

Right, with that out of the way, here’s the breakdown. A developer by the name of Marcelo Guibout basically got DLSS 5 running on the two cards, and they got it running and applied on Cyberpunk 2077. The idea here is simple: one card renders the game, while the other deals with the post-processing Neural Rendering.

While the functions and methodology of this setup look and sound straightforward, Guibout makes it clear that this is very clearly not an NVIDIA feature, and despite getting it the upscaler to work on two cards, this isn’t SLI. On another note, they make it clear, that this isn’t two GPUs splitting the workload, but rather, one card works on the output generated by the first card.

Guibout says that by having the second GPU, they are able to move the neural rendering workload away from the first GPU, therefore freeing resources that DLSS 5 would otherwise take up on said card. This method is actually similar to that of Lossless Scaling, a tool that adds frame generation and scaling to any GPU.

Mind you, it hasn’t quite been smooth sailing for DLSS 5, and not just from a modder cracking the code scenario; as we reported yesterday, it is possible that the upscaler and its Neural Rendering engine may be causing high-powered RTX 50 Series cards, such as the RTX 5090, to be pulling higher-than-average amounts of power from the wall, resulting in the dreaded melted 12VHPWR connector issue.

To be clear, it’s still unclear if DLSS 5 is to blame for that scenario, and cases of the 12VHPWR power connector on RTX 5090s melting from power surges are bountiful at this point, even in “best laid plan of mice and men” cases.
