Steam Now Capcom’s Largest Revenue Source, Surpassing PlayStation

Video game developer and publisher Capcom has seen a major shift in its revenue structure, with PC gaming – particularly via Steam – now contributing the largest share. According to the company’s latest securities report for the fiscal year ending March 2025, as reported by Japanese publication GameBiz, Steam accounted for 31% of Capcom’s total revenue, with income from the platform growing by approximately 38% year-on-yea
Game sales on Steam brought in JPY52.7 billion (~RM1.58 billion) during the fiscal year and contributing to this surge was Monster Hunter Wilds, which quickly became one of Steam’s most played titles upon release. Continued sales from older releases and re-released back catalogue titles also played a role, the report added.

It is also revealed that Steam’s share of Capcom’s revenue jumped from 21% to over a third within just a year. While the company has historically focused on arcade and console games, its revenue from PC titles has now overtaken that from PlayStation, though the latest report doesn’t detail the latter’s revenue share for the most recent year.

It’s worth noting that the figures reflect Capcom’s overall revenue, not just sales from digital or physical game copies, though it is now established that the PC market has become a major platform for the company. Beyond this, it still expects consoles to bring in more revenue than PC until at least 2027, and mobile likely continues to lead overall.
