Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Launches In Malaysia; Starts From RM7,799

Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold7, the latest addition to the brand’s foldable flagship smartphone lineup. It is touted to be the South Korean tech giant’s thinnest and most powerful foldable device yet, packed with various hardware, software and AI improvements, though there are also some that have been taken away.
Visually, the Galaxy Z Fold7 stays true to the design of its predecessor, though with several key refinements. The device now features a thinner profile, measuring just 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded. It also weighs only 215g, making it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date. While its rear camera housing is more prominent, the phone’s overall shape and layout remain familiar.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 also sports slightly larger displays than its predecessor, featuring a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display and an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen – both offering a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits. Samsung says the main screen’s build is stronger, thanks to a titanium plate layer and 50% thicker Ultra-Thin Glass. A new Armor FlexHinge with a water droplet design adds durability while reducing visible creases. The cover screen now uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, while the frame and hinge are made from a tougher Armor Aluminum. Meanwhile, water and dust resistance maintains at IP48.
Under the hood, the device runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip, delivering notable performance gains, while RAM options go up to 16GB and storage at up to 1TB. The Galaxy Z Fold7 houses a dual-cell battery with a combined capacity of 4,500mAh and supports 25W charging via USB-C as well as wireless charging. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC, while other notable features include stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, Samsung has confirmed that the phone does not feature any support for its S-Pen accessory.
Camera-wise, the Galaxy Z Fold7 now features the series’ first 200MP main camera, claimed to deliver images that are up to 44% brighter. It is supported by a 10MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto lens. Additionally, on its external display is a 10MP selfie camera, whereas on the internal screen is another 10MP front-facing camera. It should be noted that Samsung has dropped its under-display camera technology for the latter, which is now replaced by a traditional punch-hole setup.
The device ships with One UI 8, based on Android 16, and incorporates Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI features. These include upgraded versions of Photo Assist and Generative Edit, side-by-side editing previews, and enhanced Audio Eraser. AI also extends to multitasking, with split-view results, floating content previews, and drag-and-drop support. Gemini Live now supports multimodal input, allowing users to interact using both touch and speech simultaneously. Privacy has also been upgraded with features like Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection and quantum-resistant encryption for Secure Wi-Fi.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is now available for pre-order in Malaysia until 31 July 2025, with general sales beginning on 1 August 2025. It is offered in four colour options: Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, Jetblack and Mint, with the latter being exclusive to online purchases. The device comes in three configurations: 12GB RAM with 256GB storage priced at RM7,799, 12GB RAM + 512GB at RM8,399, and 16GB + 1TB at RM9,899. Compared to its predecessor, the new foldable is noticeably more expensive across the board, with a starting price that’s RM500 higher at launch.
