realme GT 7 Hands On: Subtly Stylish

realme recently debuted its GT 7 series in Malaysia, which includes the GT 7, GT 7T, as well as the GT 7 Dream Edition. The brand provided me with the opportunity to get acquainted with the base model, so here are some of my initial thoughts on the device.

For the most part, the GT 7 looks pretty unassuming at first glance. I’ve got my hands on the IceSense Black version, which features some gold accents to add some visual interest. Overall, it’s a simple and elegant, albeit somewhat safe design for a smartphone. Or at least it is until you look a little closer at the back and see the subtle shimmer that brings a starry sky to mind. So as far as looks go, the GT 7 is pretty, but in a low-key way.

One notable feature is the graphene incorporated into the device’s design. According to realme, the graphene is used for better heat dissipation, which in theory should keep the phone from getting too warm. Unfortunately, I can’t say the graphene makes any noticeable difference in the phone’s temperature so far.

Aesthetics aside, the phone features a 6.8-inch 2.8K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 6,000 nits. Internally, the phone runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 9400e, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This translates to a smooth swiping experience on a screen that’s bright enough to match the full concentrated power of the sun.

realme gt 7On the software side, the phone ships with realme UI 6.0, which is based on Android 15. As with a lot of modern smartphones, it comes with some AI-powered features like AI Planner and AI Smart Loop. The former essentially lets you automatically add events to the calendar, while the latter offers recommendations for sharing and managing content based on your actions.

As for optics, the GT 7 gets a triple setup consisting of a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto, and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. Meanwhile, the front camera is a 32MP selfie shooter. Based on the quick shots I’ve taken thus far, the camera looks pretty promising. Pictures show up clear and sharp even in my shaky hands, and the colours are fairly accurate.

The GT 7 is priced at RM2,599 and is available for purchase from realme brand stores and authorised dealers, as well as the company’s online stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok. realme is also offering gifts worth up to RM997 to those who purchase any of the GT 7 series from now until 30 June 2025. There’s an in-depth review in the works, so check back with us over time.
