PayNet Partners with Alipay+, Weixin Pay To Boost Tourist Spending In Malaysia

Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) has announced a collaboration with Alipay+ and Weixin Pay (also known as WeChat Pay) to streamline cashless transactions for tourists during the peak summer travel season. The partnership aims to offer seamless QR-based payments across the country while supporting local merchants and tourism.
With the integration of DuitNow QR, visitors from China and other parts of Asia can now pay directly using their preferred e-wallets simply by scanning the merchant’s DuitNow QR code – eliminating the need for additional apps or sign-ups. The move is designed to enhance the travel experience for foreign tourists while encouraging greater use of Malaysia’s national QR standard.
The initiative is projected to drive a significant increase in DuitNow QR transactions made via Alipay+ and Weixin Pay, with PayNet estimating a growth of over 130% by 2025. To complement the partnership, both platforms will launch limited-time promotions aimed at encouraging spending and engagement throughout Malaysia.

Alipay+
From 26 June to 14 July, tourists from China and Asia 1 regions using AlipayCN or any of its Alipay+ partner apps at DuitNow QR merchants stand a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to Hong Kong, including tickets to watch the Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur match. The lucky draw entry is automatic upon eligible transactions.
In addition, from 15 June to 30 September, users of AlipayCN and other Alipay+ affiliated wallets can access exclusive discounts across a wide range of food outlets and tourist attractions in Malaysia.

Weixin Pay
Weixin Pay users will be able to participate in a culturally themed badge collection campaign from 15 July to 30 September. Each DuitNow QR transaction earns the user a digital badge representing an element of Malaysian heritage. These badges can then be redeemed for discount coupons, adding a gamified layer to everyday spending. Beyond the promotional period, Weixin Pay users also benefit from preferential foreign exchange rates year-round when transacting via DuitNow QR.
