Nintendo Switch 2 Dock May Have An Overheating Problem

While there seems to be excitement and anxiety in equal measure surrounding the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2, it looks like there are more reasons to be on the latter camp as the days go by. One new ones looks to be the handheld console hybrid overheating, though primarily while docked. And such reports note that this can happen even when playing less demanding games.
One of the earlier instances of such claims comes from Reddit user u/NitroWalrus732, who claims to have their Nintendo Switch 2 forcefully going into sleep mode after overheating. This is while playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition in docked mode.

While this was from the earlier days of the device’s launch in international markets, more recent claims have surfaced on X, previously Twitter, with Japanese gamers reporting similar experiences. Their games range from Cyberpunk 2077 to Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma.
Circling back to the initial Reddit thread, other users have reported their Nintendo Switch 2 being toasty when left in sleep mode on the dock. One contributing factor to this may be a setting in the Sleep Mode which reads “Keep Wired Connection Active in Sleep Mode”, making the device constantly pull data when a LAN cable is plugged in. One user reported that turning this setting off solved their overheating problem.
For what it’s worth, Nintendo of America has a support page for the Switch 2 dock overheating, but does not mention the sleep mode setting above. For now, if you have a Switch 2 of your own and are having such overheating problems, turning off the aforementioned setting may be the temporary solution you need.
