Nintendo has been making moves in the SEA region indicating that it will be establishing an official presence soon. Solidifying the move is an announcement made earlier today, stating that the company has established a local entity in Singapore. And this is done for the purpose of “accelerating business in Southeast Asia”.

While Nintendo made the announcement today, said entity was set up earlier, on 26 September. Officially known as Nintendo Singapore Pte Ltd, it is led by Managing Director Takahiro Miura, who is also CEO of the company’s Korean entity.

Not much else was revealed as part of this announcement. But for what it’s worth, the company said that it is also considering setting up another local entity in Thailand. For now, it’s unclear what this would mean if it does happen. After all, Singapore is usually the country most companies choose to be the regional HQ for Southeast Asia.

It also remains to be seen if this will affect the way each country gets their local eShop rollout. Should the one in Singapore be the only regional entity, that it being responsible for the region makes sense. But if another is set up in Thailand, it suggests the possibility for independent ones in Malaysia and the Philippines to also be set up. Either way, we’ll have to wait for the company to reveal more in the meantime.
