MOHE: Higher Education Institutions May Conduct Online Lessons During 47th ASEAN Summit

47th ASEAN Summit

In conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit taking place from 26 to 28 October, several major roads and highways will be closed. To mitigate potential issues caused by these closures, the Ministry Of Higher Education (MOHE) has announced that both public and private higher education institutions in the Klang Valley have the option to conduct either online or physical teaching and learning (PdP) sessions during this period.

The ministry has urged these institutions, especially those situated in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya, to review the locations as well as time and dates for these road closures. This is to aid the institutions in evaluating the need for online classes, as the ministry is not making virtual learning compulsory throughout the three-day summit.

According to MOHE, it is offering this flexibility to ensure the well-being of staff and students as they can plan their movements. Additionally, the move is aimed at allowing the teaching and learning process to proceed smoothly. The ministry went on to advise students and staff to reach out to their respective institutions for further details.

As previously reported, the road closures will be implemented periodically, with each lasting around 30 to 45 minutes. Among the affected locations are key roads around the KL city centre and surrounding city areas, including but not limited to Jalan Istana, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Parliman, and Jalan Kuching.

Beyond that, routes connecting Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Subang to the city centre will be closed. In addition to this, the Putrajaya Ring Road and KLIA Highway will also be temporarily shut down.

Meanwhile, affected highways include the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Guthrie Corridor Expressway, North-South Expressway, MEX Highway, and KL-Seremban Expressway. Ahead of the actual event, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is conducting a dry run for the motorcade escort operations.
