Meta Rolls Out Passkeys For Facebook, Meta Pay

Meta has just announced that it is introducing passkeys to Facebook, bringing about another layer of security for the social network. “We’re introducing passkeys on Facebook for mobile devices, offering another tool to safeguard your privacy and security. Passkeys are a new way to verify your identity and log in to your account that’s easier and more secure than traditional passwords. ”
The security feature will soon be available on both iOS and Android mobile devices, with Meta rolling it out over the coming months. To set it up, simply enter the Accounts Centre, found within the Settings menu of the app. Follow the instructions and before you know it, you’ll have a more secure option for logging into your account.

“Passkeys are an upgrade in security compared to traditional passwords and one-time SMS codes because they are resistant to guessing or theft by malicious websites or scam links, making them effective against phishing and password spraying attacks. By using passkeys, you’ll have increased protection against online threats while also simplifying your login experience”
Additionally, Meta also says that the new passkeys aren’t just limited to Facebook. In addition to the social media platform, users will also be able to use the security feature to securely autofill payment information when using Meta Pay, as well as to eventually log in to Messenger and to protect encrypted message backups.
