Linda Yaccarino Steps Down After Serving Two Years As CEO Of X

linda yaccarino steps down as X CEO

Linda Yaccarino has announced her resignation as CEO of X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk that’s also formerly known as Twitter. The move marks a sudden leadership shakeup, coming just months after the company was folded into Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI.

The 61-year-old advertising veteran confirmed her departure in a post on X, suggesting the decision was her own. “I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” Yaccarino wrote, adding that she remains grateful for the opportunity to help steer the platform through its recent transformations. “When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime… I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

Yaccarino’s exit adds to the growing list of challenges facing Musk’s business empire, which includes ongoing controversies around AI and declining sales at electric carmaker Tesla. Her resignation also raises fresh uncertainty about the future direction of X.

Appointed two years ago, Yaccarino was brought in to rebuild trust with advertisers following an exodus triggered by concerns over rising negative content on the platform. Her deep experience in media and advertising was seen as crucial in stabilising X’s commercial relationships during a period of intense scrutiny and change.

Neither X nor Yaccarino have provided details on when the resignation will take effect, and no successor has been named as of writing. Musk responded briefly to her announcement on the platform, writing, “Thank you for your contributions.”
