Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has announced on Facebook that the Jaecoo J8 SUV will officially launch in Malaysia on 18 July 2025. The J8 has already been previewed twice, most recently in March this year.

Based on those previews, the SUV is expected to come in two variants: a front-wheel-drive (2WD) five-seater and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) six-seater. It measures 4,820 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,699 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm — putting it in the same size category as the Kia Sorento and Proton X90.

In terms of design, it comes with vertical-slat grille framed by sleek, high-mounted LED headlights. At the rear, the J8 showcases a full-width LED taillight bar and integrated dual exhaust outlets. Other elements include sculpted sides, flush door handles, and muscular fender lines.

Inside, the Jaecoo J8 features a widescreen display panel, wraparound wood trim, silver air vents, and a wide centre console. Both the instrument cluster and infotainment system are integrated into dual 12.3-inch screens. There are notable equipment differences between the two variants. The 2WD model comes with a 12-speaker Sony sound system, ambient lighting, and faux leather seats.

The AWD variant steps it up with a 14-speaker Sony system with headrest speakers, power doors, and genuine leather seats. This variant also comes NFC keyless entry, ventilated driver’s seat, a digital video recorder, and massage function. However, the AWD’s third-row layout reduces boot space to just 200 litres, compared to the 2WD’s more generous 738 litres.

Both variants of the Jaecoo J8 are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection inline-four engine, producing 183 kW and 385 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is also available in China and is expected to be offered in Malaysia. This PHEV setup features a 1.5-litre engine, two electric motors, and a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), delivering a combined output of 451 kW and 915 Nm of torque.

As for pricing, the 2WD variant is estimated at RM195,000, while the AWD is expected to cost around RM220,000. Official pricing will be confirmed soon, with the launch just around the corner.
