Fujifilm has officially launched the X-E5, its latest APS-C mirrorless camera that blends the classic rangefinder aesthetic with updated internals. Announced during its X Summit 2025 event in Shanghai, the new shooter introduces significant upgrades over its predecessor while maintaining its signature compact form.

The camera is built around Fujifilm’s 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and X Processor 5 combo, offering detailed image quality, native ISO 125, and fast performance across stills and 6.2K video recording. A new in-body image stabilisation system provides up to 7.0 stops of correction, aided by an upgraded gyro sensor and improved algorithms.

Physically, the X-E5 features a machined aluminium top plate and a tapered rear edge that’s both ergonomic and visually polished. Its updated Film Simulation dial allows users to access built-in looks and store up to three custom profiles.

The camera’s electronic viewfinder has been redesigned to evoke classic film cameras, with a new red-hued “Classic” display mode and a traditional-style needle for exposure compensation. Users can also toggle the appearance of the frame area via the Surround View function, adjustable using a newly added front Control Lever, which offers four customisable inputs. Meanwhile, the tilting rear LCD can now flip forward for selfies or vlogging.

Autofocus has been enhanced with AI-based subject detection and predictive algorithms for improved tracking across people, animals, vehicles, and more—even in low-contrast scenes. Additional conveniences include Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C charging, and support for UHS-II SD cards.

Alongside the X-E5, Fujifilm has introduced the XF23mm f/2.8 R WR—a compact, weather-resistant pancake lens offering a 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view. Built from eight elements in six groups (with two aspherical lenses), it’s designed for fast, quiet autofocus and high image quality, even at close range. A physical aperture ring, weather sealing, and lightweight construction make it an ideal match for the X-E5’s form factor.
