As announced by the Chinese automaker Chery last week, the Tiggo Cross has made its debut in Malaysia today. It will be a locally assembled (CKD) B-segment SUV and comes in two variants: Hybrid and Turbo.
As we reported last week, the car has a large grille, sharper LED lights and a bumper design that gives it an aggressive stance. The car also features vertical Daytime Running Lights (DRL) at the sides of the air vents. The rear has a full-width taillight bar, a roof spoiler and roof rails.
However, there is a difference in terms of wheel size, where the Hybrid gets 17-inch alloy wheels while the Turbo gets 18-inch. Also both the variants comes in three exterior colours – Carbon Black, Khaki White and Phantom Grey. However, the Hybrid gets the Moonlight Silver exclusively while the Turbo variant is available in Blood Stone Red.
The cabin comes with dual 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, which support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also has Dual-Zone Climate Control, operated via a Climate Control Touchscreen panel. Moreover, the air-conditioning temperature can also be controlled through the Voice Assistant. Other features include faux leather seats, ambient lighting, a wireless charger and a six-way power driver’s seat. The Hybrid variant, however, has an electric lumbar support for the driver’s seat.
As for the powertrain, as mentioned before, the Tiggo Cross has two setups. In the case of the Hybrid, it features Chery’s Super Hybrid Platform (CSH) paired with a Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The hybrid system is powered by a 1.5-litre engine with 96 PS and 120 Nm of torque, paired with an electric motor. In total, the car produces 204 PS and 310 Nm. Furthermore, the Hybrid comes with five driving modes: EV, Tandem, Parallel, Direct Engine, and Energy Recovery.
Meanwhile, the Turbo comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with a six-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). Together, it produces 147 PS and 210 Nm of torque. Additionally, both variants come with a 51-litre fuel tank. According to the automaker, the Hybrid has a fuel consumption of 5.4 litres per 100 km, while the Turbo has 6.3 litres per 100 km.
In terms of safety, both variants have seven airbags and an ADAS package with 16 features, such as rear cross-traffic braking, traffic jam assist, lane centring assist and many more. These systems are supported by a 540-degree camera for enhanced visibility in tight spots.
As for the price, the 1.5 Hybrid CSH has a price tag of RM99,800, while the 1.5 Turbo is priced at RM88,800. Both variants come with a seven-year/150,000 km warranty and seven years of free towing service. Chery also announced an early bird offer for the first 2,000 customers, which includes two years of all-inclusive free service.
