CDPR Confirms: Cyberpunk 2 Has Entered Pre-Production

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 has entered pre-production. The studio and game publisher confirmed the detail in an earnings report earlier this week.

“Several weeks ago the CD PROJEKT RED team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project’s conceptual phase. As a result, Cyberpunk 2 – previously known under the codename Project Orion – has progressed to preproduction.”

Now, obviously, Cyberpunk 2 is just a placeholder as well, and it is likely that CDPP will replace it with another name closer to the game’s release date, or when alpha gameplay footage becomes available. Also, don’t expect the game to be ready within the next several years. Remember: Cyberpunk 2077 went into development in 2012 and didn’t get a release until 2020. Also, it is not known if the game will serve as a sequel or if it will be a standalone title.

On a related note, CDPR also celebrated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s 10th anniversary, and that it had sold more than 60 million copies of the game since its release.
