Officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) have been granted the legal authority to check Malaysians’ identification cards (IDs), according to Kuala Lumpur KPDN director Mohd Sabri Seman. This measure aims to ensure the smooth implementation of the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) and the Budi MADANI RON95 petrol subsidy (BUDI95).

He further explained that the identity checks are being conducted to ensure the SKPS operates accordingly. This is in line with the government’s goal of channelling RON95 petrol subsidies in a targeted manner to eligible Malaysians, is fulfilled.

Mohd Sabri added that the measure also serves as a preventive step against identity misuse, with checks carried out only when necessary. He noted that extensive monitoring is underway at all licensed petrol stations in Kuala Lumpur, in conjunction with the full rollout of the BUDI95 programme.

“In line with KPDN’s focus on strengthening enforcement through risk management and digital integration, 101 Kuala Lumpur enforcement officers have been deployed for inspections,” Mohd Sabri said. “To date, 196 petrol stations have been inspected with no issues detected and no complaints have been received regarding SKPS implementation at any petrol station in the city.”

On the other hand, he explained that records of subsidised petrol purchases are securely and transparently logged. This allows for faster and more efficient monitoring, helping authorities identify suspicious activities, including repeated or unusually large transactions.
