Many telcos often advertise that they have the fastest data speed in the entire country but often lack the numbers or the evidence to back them up. This can be quite troublesome for users who may be scouting for a new plan to use. Fortunately, telecommunications analytics and network intelligence companies Ookla and Opensignal have determined that U Mobile’s ULTRA5G is the best mobile network and fastest 5G in the country.
According to the two companies’ independent findings, U Mobile was able to obtain multiple awards jointly or outright in 2026 alone. Outside of awards, the report claims that U Mobile has achieved the biggest growth among any telco within the country.
Ookla: The Fastest 5G And Best Mobile Network In Malaysia
According to Ookla, U Mobile’s ULTRA5G achieved the highest Speedtest Connectivity Score of 80.34. This rating measures real-world network experience by combining speed, web browsing, and video streaming performance.
In a separate but related report, the company said that the 5G network has the highest 5G speed score of 67.26 and has Malaysia’s fastest median 5G download speed of 348.73Mbps. Because of these statistics, the company has named U Mobile as Malaysia’s Best Mobile Network and Malaysia’s Fastest 5G Network for the first half of 2026 (Q1-Q2).
OpenSignal: The Biggest Mover Among Malaysian Operators

Meanwhile, Opensignal reports that U Mobile “biggest mover among Malaysian operators”. According to U Mobile’s press release, this information builds upon the telco’s performance in the Opensignal Malaysia Mobile Network Experience Report, which was published back in July 2026.
The document says that Opensignal recorded the largest improvement in Reliability, where it gained 99 points. This surge of points allowed U Mobile to go from last place in the previous report to a joint first place.
Furthermore, the mobile analytics company says that U Mobile was able to improve its Consistent Quality Score by 12 percentage points, allowing it to secure first outright. Opensignal also adds that the telco led nationally in “Consistent Quality”, “Download Speed”, “Upload Speed Experience”, and “5G Availability” segments, while receiving awards for “Download Speed Experience” and “Upload Speed Experience”.
As for its regional-level performance, Opensingal says U Mobile was able to secure 51 outright and 64 shared Opensignal awards. Furthermore, it says that it was able to achieve a clean sweep of Download Speed awards in all regions and even received recognition for 5G Download Speed and 5G Availability in every region, either outright or jointly.

OpenSignal and Ookla’s reports provide valuable insight into not only how U Mobile operates in the country but also how it compares to its competitors. U Mobile says that, by operating its own 5G infrastructure, it was able to achieve greater end-to-end control over its network. It adds that, thanks to this, this allows the company to expand its coverage, optimise its network performance, and “invest in capabilities that enhance the customer experience.”
