Sarawak To Provide Teachers With Specialised AI Training

AI use, for better or worse, is proliferating, and what better way to be prepared for it than to get specialised training? That may be what the shot callers of Sarawak have decided, as the state is providing specialised training in AI for teachers across the state. Said training will equip the teachers with the knowledge and skills to integrate AI into classroom teaching.
The Borneo Post cites Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg as saying that this was in response to a request from teachers in the state. “What is important is the value – the value system in AI – so that we can educate our students not to misuse AI”, he was quoted as saying.

Abang Johari also says that the tech will be a key enabler across various sectors in Sarawak, naming “agriculture, manufacturing, even in the social sector” specifically. He also mentions the morality and ethics of AI use, and the need to instil responsible use of the tech in people.
All that being said, it’s unclear what this specialised training will entail. But for what it’s worth, the Sarawak Tribune reported something similar has taken place late last month, involving over 80 school teachers and held at the Curtin University Malaysia over the course of four days.
