MBPJ To Install 1,000 EV Chargers Across PJ City

On 26 June, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EV Connection (EVC) and Carput Zap Network to facilitate the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers. This collaboration aims to install 1,000 EV chargers in strategic locations across Petaling Jaya in phases.

This collaboration is part of MBPJ’s Green Mobility Partnership initiative, which aims to expand the green mobility ecosystem and support national aspirations and government policies for a transition towards low-carbon mobility. The initiative also contributes to the country’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The EV chargers will be installed in phases, with the first phase consisting of 100 chargers, is expected to be completed by 2030. “Potential locations include public areas including government buildings, sports complexes, public parking lots and other strategic locations throughout Petaling Jaya,” MBPJ stated in a statement.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon also pointed out that both the partners are committed in supporting the MBPJ’s mission to transform Petaling Jaya into a sustainable and resilient city. Both the companies is reported to use contribute their respective expertise and infrastructure through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach

As of 31 March 2025, there are 4,161 EV chargers across Malaysia, with 289 located in Petaling Jaya. Of these, 219 are AC chargers, while the remaining 70 are DC chargers. These chargers are primarily installed in public locations such as shopping centres and petrol stations.
