Rapid KL To Introduce New My50 Pass Feature To Its Pulse App

Prasarana, via its Rapid KL page on Facebook, is teasing a new feature that’s set to arrive on its Pulse mobile app. While details are sparse, the company clearly indicates that it involves the my50 monthly public transport pass. Could this mean commuters will finally be able to renew their passes directly through the app? If so, most would agree that this has been long overdue.

Whatever it may be, Rapid KL promises that it will be fast, easy to use, and let users skip the queue. If the feature does enable my50 pass renewals via Pulse, it would be a welcome improvement, especially since the current process is limited to physical counters at the operator’s LRT, MRT, and KTM stations.

Unfortunately, no timeline has been provided for the rollout, and specifics regarding how the feature will work – including device compatibility – remain under wraps. Given that the current my50 pass is tied to Malaysian ICs (MyKads) and utilises NFC technology, it’s likely that an NFC-enabled smartphone will be required to complete the renewal – similar to how users top up Touch ‘n Go (TnG) cards via the TnG eWallet app.

Speaking of which, the announcement also brings up another point of interest. Earlier this year, Rapid KL revealed plans to support the my50 pass on TnG’s NFC card, which would effectively end its exclusivity to MyKad. That change was originally slated for May 2025 but has yet to materialise. Whether this upcoming feature is part of that broader shift remains to be seen.
