CIMB Customers To No Longer Receive SMS Transaction Notifications Starting 17 May 2025

CIMB OCTO SMS

Effective 17 May 2025, CIMB users will no longer receive transaction notifications or PTA (Post Transaction Alert) via SMS. Instead the bank has announced that all notices will only be sent via the CIMB OCTO application. This notice follows CIMB’s previous announcement of its full implementation of SecureTAC last month.

With this change in effect, users will not receive SMS to notify them if a transaction occurs either on the CIMB Clicks, FPX website or the CIMB OCTO application. The move is likely to reduce reliance on the older service, especially with the recent rise of fraudulent SMS messages posing as banks to deceive unsuspecting customers.

As mentioned earlier, all CIMB related transaction notices will be sent as push notifications via the bank’s OCTO application. Needless to say, users are advised to enable the feature in order to continue receiving real-time transaction updates.

To do this, open the OCTO app, select “More”, “Settings”, “Manage Push Notification”, and press “Done”. Additionally, ensure that the bank app has permission to provide notifications on your Android phone through the Settings > Notifications > App Notifications menu. For iOS devices, you can enable or disable this by launching the Settings app, open up Notifications, and locate CIMB OCTO from the Notification Style list at the bottom of the page.
